Squire Asani Khamis is at their sixth term of knighthood, under the mentorship of Ser Edward Wino. He has sworn fealty to Lord Gaidon of the House of Felryn. As a squire with common blood, Asani owns no land and no title of nobility. Xe formerly lived in Hellenden, working as a farmer under Lord Gaidon. When xer powers were discovered, xe was made a squire at 14 and lived at the Felryn estate for five years. At 20, he was promoted to a position at the castle.

They call him many names. Bastard. Castle rat. Dirt-blooded. Countless more names, so many that he stopped keeping track. Anything to separate him away from them. But underneath their sneers, smirks, and smart remarks, he can smell the insecurity simmering from within. The shift in their voices, the tremble in their stances. They fear the destruction of nobility and high birth, of the mingling between classes, and the loss of their power, which was bestowed to them by blood inheritance. Asani stands in their way of a private world locked away by privilege and prestige. Instead of stepping back, he rushes forward without hesitation.

But piercing through the tight-knit ranks of aristocracy requires cunning and finesse, a skill xe lacked when first entering the world of elites. Eventually xe adapted to the scene, reading up on obscure literature, coaching xerself on etiquette, learning to speak with a silver tongue. Though xer disdain towards nobility never faded, they got better at hiding it. Sometimes xe blend in so well with aristocrats that even xe forgets xer origin as a commoner.

That was, until his pact patron returned with a new demand from him: servitude so that he may bring forth a new dominion in the patron’s name…

If there was one word to describe Asani, it would be opportunist. Xe hunt for opportunities the way a duelist scans for openings. When xe strikes, xer hits are quick, precise, purposeful. Xe knows exactly what xe wants and is focused on achieving xer aspirations. This does not mean that xe is rigid—far from it. Asani’s versatility allows xer to change ineffective methods to more effective ones based on xer observations. Xe is not opposed to new ideas. Xer independence leads to a lot of creativity and innovation, preferring originality rather than conformity.

Asani’s brother and closest friend. He had medium brown skin and closely cropped hair and a stocky, fit build. He was quiet and gentle-mannered, though there was an earnest impulsivity in the way he ran across fields and forests. Farming was something he loved more than himself, and he was attuned to the ways animals moved and spoke, how the trees swayed and the grass beckoned. But his parents wanted him to be a priest, so they sent him to school, away from the farm. Bomani struggled with the pressures of family and with his own desires his entire life. He was 17 when he passed, running to save his grandfather from the burning barn.

Asani Khamis was born on the day of the Harvest Festival, which took place on the first full Autumn Moon after harvest. As a result of the day of his birth, the town fortuneteller said that his life would be marked by wealth and prosperity. His parents dismissed this sentiment, believing it to be another scam. It was meaningless to them.

Xer family was of a moderate size, with two figureheads as parents, a grandparent who lived with them, and their five total children (two older siblings, two younger ones). Xe was raised in a family of a cattle herders, working in the public pastures of Hellenden. Xe was taught to be a farmer, but it was a bad fit for xer. Xe was too preoccupied with xer dreams to be focus on clearing fields. Instead, xer parents sent them to school with Bomani, xer eldest brother. As a result, Bomani and Asani developed tightly-bound friendship, united in shared brotherhood in spite of their seven year age difference.

Even school was not quite the environment Asani sought out. School hours were long, especially when most of his time was spent at a single classroom. The lack of ventilation made it uncomfortable to sit through during summer. At recess, he played stick swords with his friends, and they often got in trouble for running off to the forest. For a time, he was content with his life. He spent his days wildly and recklessly, but there was always a part of him that yearned for more.

When xe was 10, a wildfire erupted at a forest near their farm. The fire killed most of their cattle, burnt down their house and land area. Bomani and xer grandfather both died in the fires. Nearly being caught in the fire, the smoke worsened xer asthmatic symptoms. The exact origins of the fire was unknown, but it was believed to be started by the knights of Lord Gaidon Felryn, who were drunk at the time. Lord Gaidon didn’t take accountability for his soldiers. Instead, he lifted his tax demands and brought more knights on to their land. With xer father disabled by the accident, xer family couldn’t afford to continue sending their children to school. Asani returned to the fields as a farmer.
